Story Notes:

Random idea, figured I'd write it down :P

Shawn paced around his apartment, hands clapsed behind his head, taking deep, shaking breaths.

Abigail Lytar.

His former ‘one-that-got-away'.

Abi was an amazing girl. She was intelligent. Witty. Gorgeous. Everything a guy could want. Shawn truly enjoyed her company, and sincerely liked her.

And yet...something was missing. Something just didn't seem right...

Shawn let his arms fall to his sides and walked over to his couch, where he plopped down. He brought a hand up to cover his eyes as he leaned his head back against the head rest.

He knew exactly what the problem was.

Abi was amazing. But he couldn't get her everything he had to offer.

Because he knew that deep down, his heart wasn't there to be given. Because it already belonged to someone else. Someone who had held the power to make or break him for the past 3 years...

He covered his mouth and tried to take a deep breath.

Juliet.

Shawn groaned.

He'd seen how Juliet looked since he started dating Abi. She was polite, cordial. But he could tell her smile was always forced. He could sometimes feel her eyes boring into the back of his head when he had his arm around Abi's waist, or when he kissed her goodbye.

He could tell she was suffering.

He wanted to tell Juliet that he was so sorry, that he would do anything to make her happy again. He wanted to tell her that he was absolutely haunted by the sad look in her eyes that he has to see every day, that he was tormented by the fact that it was his fault she was so miserable.

As he thought about all he wanted to tell Juliet, he finally came to a forceful realization. One that hit him in the head like a cliché pile of bricks.

He wanted Abigail to be happy. He wanted her to be with someone that could make her truly happy, the way she deserved to be.

But he could never give Abigail what he knew she deserved. He couldn't give her his best.

Shawn slowly got up. Without really giving it much thought, he grabbed the helmet for his bike and his keys and headed out the door.

As he got on his bike to go to Abigail's house, he vaguely registered a car parked outside the apartment building next door. The car's windows were down, and the song that was playing blared into the night.

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

Shawn froze.

Has someone taken your faith?
It's real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You'd die to heal

Someone up there clearly enjoys torturing him...

The hope that starts
The broken hearts
You trust, you must confess

Shawn had heard enough. He stepped on the gas and sped away, trying not to think about the fact that a Foo Fighters song, of all things, had hit home so hard...

Chapter End Notes:
The end sorta reminds me of how Bumblebee acts in the movie Transformers. Maybe I'm just weird, I dunno. haha
