"JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULES!" An excited Shawn raced through his and Juliet's house, searching every room with great speed to find the blonde detective. He pouted when he realized she wasn't in any of them.
Hs dismay didn't last long when he heard the back door shut. He grinned as he raced down the steps (tripping a few times in the process) and sprinted to greet his girlfriend.
"Jules!" He said, smiling wider than the Grand Canyon.
"Hi!" She said, smiling in response to the look on his face.
He took the stuff out of her hands and placed it on the counter. "Sweetheart, I just had a major epiphany."
She went to the counter to begin putting groceries away. "And what would that be, Shawn?"
He leaned forward to place a can on a shelf she was struggling to reach. "You know how I've been trying to think about one good thing about Gus dating Rachael? Besides his happiness that is."
"You never said you were doing that!" She said.
"I didn't? Well I thought about it a lot, Jules. Rachael doesn't really... How do you say... "Like" me as much as your best friend's girl should."
"That's because Maximus saw someone get killed because of you, almost got arrested, and you imitated her like she was a leprechaun all in the span of 24 hours."
"Hey, who's side are you on? And how is it my fault that someone died in front of him? That could happen anywhere. Someone could explode at the grocery store or get electrocuted simply taking toast from the toaster."
She smirked. "I'm on your side. I'm just giving you perspective."
"Anyway, I was thinking, Gus and I are like brothers, correct?"
"Definitely." She said, putting stuff in the fridge.
"And Rachael is all sophisticated and proper."
"You think I'm sophisticated and proper?"
He snorted. "You used to be, before you dated me."
She shrugged. "I guess you made me regress."
"Anywho, I think we should double date!"
Her face lit up. "Oh Shawn! I've wanted to double date with people that weren't con artists for the longest time."
He poked her nose. "I knew you would be happy about this. Gus made arrangements, so I guess dress nice, right?"
"Right." She said.
It was a good thing they did, because Gus decided to get the couple into the art museum for it's new Van Gogh section.
Rachael and Juliet hung out while Gus laughed over art related topics with the head of the event. Shawn slunk into the corner, wine glass at hand (which sucked by the way), next to the statue of a giant turtle. He smelled the wine again and cringed at the aroma. Shawn had tried making obnoxious jokes about the art, but apparently everyone here was on serious pills. Juliet and Rachael talked, which he was grateful for. Jules and Rachael had to become friends, because he and Gus were like brothers so they had to hang out... Separate to the boys of course.
Not much later, Juliet eventually sat beside him. "I see you've made a new friend." She said, referring to the turtle.
He patted it. "Me and Otis have bonded over the past two hours of smelling this disgusting wine and watch what seems to be, a fun double date for three."
"You realize that thing is probably worth like 200,000 dollars, right?"
"Oh, please! How is a big turtle made of stone worth more than 10 bucks?"
She sighed and shook her head. "So why are you all by yourself?"
"Um hello, Otis can hear you."
She rolled her eyes. "Shawn."
"I don't fit here, Jules. This is not my crowd."
"It isn't mine either."
"Are you serious? You and Rachael were chatting it up nicely."
"She pretty much did all the talking. She made all these comments about texture and feeling involving the artwork and I just compared them to things I drew as a little kid."
"And she found them funny?"
"Yeah, she did." She said. "She said she likes me a lot and thinks I'm good for you. She said I keep you in line."
"I can't really argue with her there, but no one will every fully keep me in line."
"A bit of wiggling room is okay." She laughed. "The point is, she really likes me!"
He patted her leg. "That's great."
She frowned. "Are you okay?"
"I'm sitting alone by a turtle, Jules."
"I think you'll grow on her, Shawn. Sometimes it takes a little time to become accustomed to how you act. You can be a lot to handle. I'm used to it."
He smiled and kissed her cheek. "You're used to me?"
She rested her head against his shoulder. "Yeah, it's pretty much autopilot when it comes to you."
He laughed. "Is that so?"
"Yeah, it's smooth sailing. And I think, if you tried to meet Rachael in the middle on a few personality things, you guys could end up actually getting along in the long run."
"I hate long runs. I don't even like short runs."
"Believe me, I know."
"This has been a sucky double date."
"Yeah. There wasn't much double about it. Maybe we can grab dinner or something." She said. "There's never any food at these things."
"I love you. You think Rachael will eventually act like you?"
"Nah she'll be a close second though." Juliet teased.
"So food?"
"Let's!"
