Shawn stared at his father's retreating back in surprise. Once Henry was far enough away. Shawn reached up a hand and touched the place that his father had kissed him. Oddly he didn't feel embarrassed or ashamed that his father had openly showed affection in front of the entire police station. Considering that he hadn't kissed Shawn like that since he was really little, Shawn had kind of missed it. He thought back to the days where he had hated his father.
When he was in Argentina he had met a boy who had never met his father. He was working right next to Shawn and he had always wanted to meet his father. He remembered how he had claimed to the other man that he never knew his father. Now, after everything Shawn and his father had been through, Shawn felt bad about telling the man he never knew his father. He knew who his father was, it just took certain circumstances to bring him out.
After awhile Shawn realized that he hadn't moved for a good five minutes. Shawn smiled slightly and began walking around the desk towards the exit.
"Spencer!" Shawn stopped abruptly and turned slowly, knowing what a conversation with Lassiter would do to his mood.
"What is it, Lassie? We already rescued Timmy today!" Shawn gave a half-hearted smile. Lassiter looked him strangely, as if he knew that Shawn's heart wasn't really in the teasing.
"Good-good job on the case. I wanted to talk to your father, but I can't find him anywhere. I hope he's not taking the news about his partners to hard." Lassiter looked distinctly uncomfortable with the conversation. Shawn raised his eyebrows at the uncharacteristic display of concern.
"Yeah, he's okay. I think. He's kind of down, but he's going to talk to the other partner, the one that didn't do anything. I think he wants somebody to talk to about all of this."
"Yes, well a dirty cop is the worst of them all." Lassiter nodded at Shawn and then walked briskly back to is desk. Shawn watched him go. Shawn turned to go home. He walked down the steps with a little jump in his step. He had gotten on his bike when he realized that he had left the check on his dad's old desk.
He ran back into the station and promptly ran into Buzz. Buzz was talking to him about the case, and he suddenly had a horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach. he grabbed the manila folder from Buzz and gazed down the list of names. Shawn's eyes fell on the last name and his heart sunk like a stone to his feet.
"Oh no." He whispered dropping the folder through his numb fingers he ran out the door.
"Dad," he whispered as he jumped on his bike haphazardly. All he could think of was how he and his dad were building their relationship. How they were building their relationship. How they were supposed to have a beer later. How they were getting along.
How his father had to be okay. He just had to.
